Fans of both Ruch Chorzów and Wisła Kraków had eagerly awaited this clash, but on this Saturday afternoon, only one set of supporters had reason to celebrate—the ones from Kraków. Wisła did not doubt their superiority, dominating their league rivals 5-0.
The visitors from R22 made an electrifying start, taking the lead as early as the 5th minute from a set piece. Mariusz Kutwa, filling in at centre-back for the suspended Alan Uryga, found the net with a powerful shot under the crossbar after a pinpoint corner delivery from Marko Poletanović. Kutwa’s goal started a goal streak. Chorzów's players attempted to respond quickly, trying to break into Wisła’s penalty area, but the defensive line from Kraków held firm. In the 13th minute, a well-timed pass cut through Ruch’s defenders, finding Zawiliński in space, but he slipped while shooting, making it an easy save for the hosts' goalkeeper.
Ruch’s forays into Wisła’s half yielded little in terms of genuine goal-scoring opportunities. In contrast, the visitors played with composure and precision. The 21st minute saw a swift counterattack from Wisła, with Mikulec delivering an inch-perfect cross from the left, allowing Rodado to head the ball past the helpless goalkeeper.
As the minutes ticked by, Wisła continued to dominate. The home side struggled to leave their half, let alone build meaningful attacks. The 33rd minute brought yet another well-constructed move from the visitors. In a sequence reminiscent of a tactical chess game, the ball was passed seamlessly between Wisła’s players before landing at the feet of Zwoliński, who slotted it home. However, the goal was ruled out for offside.
The final stages of the first half were briefly interrupted due to thick smoke in the stadium, causing a temporary stoppage. But once play resumed, Wisła wasted no time in extending their lead. A well-worked move ended with Ángel Baena finding the back of the net, sending the visitors into half-time with a commanding 3-0 advantage.
Three Before the Break, Two After
After the restart, it was the hosts who attempted to strike first. Barański unleashed a powerful effort from inside the box, missing the target by a narrow margin. Moments later, Ruch once again pressed into Wisła’s area, but the visitors’ defence remained resolute. The hosts' persistence suggested that the second half could still deliver excitement. And indeed, it did—once again courtesy of Wisła.
Ángel Rodado continued his masterclass, adding his second goal in the 56th minute to further extend Wisła’s lead. The Spanish forward was far from done, though. Just four minutes later, he completed his hat-trick with a stunning strike from distance, guiding the ball into the far corner and making it 5-0 for the visitors.
Ruch Chorzów desperately sought a consolation goal. Their best chance came in the 74th minute when a deflected effort narrowly missed the post. Moments later, another promising attack was thwarted by Letkiewicz, who remained alert in Wisła’s goal.
Despite the hosts’ late attempts, there were no further goals, and Wisła Kraków comfortably secured all three points, returning to Małopolska in style.
