Mariusz Jop after #ŁKSWIS: I'm pleased with the team’s good reaction after conceding a goal

On Sunday, December 7, with the match against ŁKS Łódź, the White Star wrapped up the 2025 campaign. The final game of the year ended in a draw with the team from Łódź. Mariusz Jop commented on the match during the post-game press conference.

“From my perspective, it was a match in which you could see a lot of determination and a lot of fight from both sides. There were fewer fluid actions. Even so, I think we still managed to build several interesting plays. The conditions were difficult for that. First, the home team was aggressive and intense in the defensive phase. Second—the pitch conditions also weren’t easy. We know the pitch here is far from ideal, and that sometimes made things difficult for both teams. The match was even. I’m pleased with the team’s good reaction after conceding a goal, because the beginning wasn’t great from us. You could see a big desire not just to draw, but to win. Of course, the opponent also had their moments from set pieces. I think there were two crosses that were quite dangerous. Outside of that, there wasn’t much threat near our goal. I congratulate the team above all for that reaction, which is not always easy to show or translate into concrete things—into goal-scoring chances.

Summing up not only this match, but the whole round, I think we can be very satisfied. Averaging 2.26 points after this game is something that opens the path toward achieving our objective. The league has shaped up in such a way that right now we definitely have a ten-point advantage over the third-place team. It may even be more, depending on the result of Polonia Bytom vs Chrobry Głogów. Of course, we know we’re just a bit past the halfway point. We’re aware of that and we know there’s still a lot, a lot of work ahead. But now it’s time for a well-deserved rest.” – said Wisła’s head coach, Mariusz Jop.

Was Darijo’s substitution due to an injury? “It was a tactical decision,” the coach replied briefly.

There were quite a few controversial refereeing decisions. Did the aerial duel involving Wiktor Biedrzycki—who was struck by an elbow to the head—qualify as a foul and a penalty for Wisła? “For me, the bigger controversy is Głowacki’s foul on Ertlthaler. I remember that we received several red cards for similar situations, so here… I don’t know. Maybe Wisła needs to work harder for favorable decisions. Not so much unfavorable—because the point is simply to referee what happens on the pitch. But to me, that was a bigger controversy. I admit I didn’t see the Biedrzycki–Rudol incident, but the other one we watched again in replays, and it was a clear stamp—something that, as I said, has often cost us a player who was sent off with a red card.” – concluded coach Mariusz Jop.
