In front of a full house at the Henryk Reyman Stadium, Wisła Kraków ultimately fell 1:3 to Wisła Płock. The lone goal for the White Star came from Ángel Rodado’s penalty kick.
The First Half
Kraków’s side started the match with conviction, winning a series of corners early on; however, they failed to find the back of the net. Still, the home team persisted and were soon rewarded - Ángel Rodado coolly converted the penalty, and in the 13th minute, Wisła Kraków took the lead!
Their joy was short-lived, however, as the hosts’ defence was caught napping just one minute later. Just a few seconds later, Hleb Kuchko levelled the score for the visitors from Płock, and the game continued at 1:1.
The contest evened out as the first half ended, with end-to-end action on both sides. The next goal came courtesy of coach Mariusz Misiura’s eleven. In a dangerous area, Łukasz Sekulski pounced on a loose ball and, charging straight at Patryk Letkiewicz’s goal, finished clinically to put his side ahead 2:1 in the 38th minute. That’s how the teams went into the break, setting the stage for a tense second half.
The Second Half
Aware of the unfavourable scoreline, the White Star players launched a determined offensive as soon as play resumed. Wisła Płock endured a challenging fifteen-minute spell, and an hour in, the score remained 2:1. The visitors did their best to kill time whenever possible, yet they still crafted promising attacks now and then. The minutes ahead would reveal whether Wisła Kraków could claw their way back or if the guests would extend their advantage. On the home side, Kacper Duda stood out with his shooting attempts, while Bartłomiej Gradecki proved equal to every test in Płock’s goal.
With ten minutes left on the clock, Mariusz Jop’s side continued to press, often pinning their opponents deep inside their penalty area. Wisła Płock, meanwhile, defended collectively and cleared the ball at every opportunity to catch their breath.
When the scoreboard ticked over to the 90th minute, Misiura’s players had possession for lengthy spells in the White Star’s half. The hosts, desperate for at least a draw, left themselves exposed at the back, and Kuchko took full advantage, completing his brace and sealing the final score at 1:3.
