Kuziemka after #WISŚLĄ: I can’t stop, I have to keep working

The White Star once again secured all three points. This time, coach Mariusz Jop’s side defeated Śląsk Wrocław at home in style. The Kraków team claimed an emphatic 5–0 victory, with our interviewee, Maciej Kuziemka, playing his part in the win. What did he have to say?

The Wisła Kraków winger pointed to the tactical approach set out by the coach and how the team carried it out. “We’re very happy because we’re sticking to our tactical plans, and it’s paying off. Thanks to that, we’re scoring a lot of goals and keeping clean sheets as well. We need to continue this,” Kuziemka began.

The young White Star player has broken into the starting eleven with confidence, proving his value with every match while keeping his feet on the ground. “I’m proud that I’ve managed to stay in the starting lineup at Wisła Kraków. I’m happy that through hard work I’m where I am now. But I can’t stop, I have to keep working,” he stressed.

Kuziemka also commented on his partnership with fellow Wisła player Julian Lelieveld, saying: “Julian is definitely a very smart player. I can learn from him, he gives me a lot of advice on positioning and behavior on the pitch. I enjoy playing alongside him. He’s also just a really good person, so I hope it continues like this.”

The White Star player recently received a call-up to the Poland youth national team. Was he expecting such recognition? “Of course, in the back of my mind the thought of a call-up was there, but I wasn’t really focused on it. What was and is most important for me is to perform as well as I can in matches, and the recognition came naturally,” he continued.

Wisła Kraków have been recording win after win this season. Did the players realistically expect such a strong start before the campaign began? “It’s hard to say if we expected results this good before the season, but we know our abilities. We also know how we want to play, offensively and boldly, to score goals, and it’s been working. We knew that if we stuck to our game plan, it could turn out this way,” the midfielder explained.

He also stressed that the season is long and difficult matches will inevitably come. The key, he said, is to stay focused. “The First League is very specific. We’ve already seen that anyone can beat anyone here, so we approach every match with a clear head, starting fresh and fighting again for three points. Of course, we analyze every game with the coaching staff. I think sometimes we lack a bit of patience, at least from my perspective, in my own game. I feel there are moments when we could exchange more passes to tire the opponent. But I do enjoy our aggressive style, always attacking.”

Finally, he spoke about what he sees as Wisła’s greatest strength: “We don’t want to sit back; we don’t want to just defend a result. Offensively, we are at our best, that’s our biggest weapon. If we attack well, the opponent often can’t cope with us,” he concluded.
