The highly anticipated clash between Wisła Kraków and Jagiellonia Białystok in the Superpuchar Polski (Polish Super Cup) delivered a full spectrum of emotions. The match was filled with twists and turns, moments of dominance from both sides and intense battles on the pitch. In the end, Jagiellonia emerged victorious with a 1-0 win, securing the trophy.
The First Half
The match began with neither team asserting clear dominance. Both sides sought to take control, frequently appearing in each other’s penalty areas. As the game progressed, Jagiellonia Białystok started to impose themselves in Wisła’s half but without creating any real threats to Letkiewicz’s goal. In the 6th minute, Baena created the first real chance to open the scoring. He skillfully dribbled past a Jagiellonia defender before passing to Zwoliński, who took a shot on goal. However, Jagiellonia’s goalkeeper, Adamowicz, reacted swiftly and punched the ball away. Duarte had a golden opportunity to capitalize on the rebound but struck the crossbar instead.
A minute later, Wisła was awarded a free kick. Igbekeme fired a direct shot toward Abramowicz’s goal, resulting in a corner kick. However, this set-piece failed to yield a goal. Shortly afterwards, Poletanović delivered another corner, but Jagiellonia’s defence stood firm. A third corner followed, leading to chances for Mikulec, Igbekeme, and Sukiennicki, but all three failed to convert, with Jagiellonia’s defensive line proving resilient. A fourth corner kick was taken, but once again, Wisła could not break the deadlock.
In the 14th minute, Jagiellonia took the lead. Villar found space in Wisła’s penalty area after Letkiewicz parried an initial shot from another Jagiellonia player. The ball fell kindly to Villar, who made no mistake, slotting it straight into Wisła’s net. Wisła continued to push for an equalizer. In the 26th minute, they won yet another corner but failed to capitalize. Another followed, ending with a header that sailed over the bar. In the 29th minute, Jaroch made a crucial block to deny Jagiellonia a dangerous attacking opportunity. As the first half progressed, Jagiellonia had another chance to double their lead through a free kick, but the effort missed the target. Around the 40th minute, Sukiennicki played a well-placed pass to Duarte, who struck the ball straight into Adamowicz’s hands.
Wisła’s attacking efforts lacked precision, and the first half ended with Jagiellonia leading 1-0. Even in added time, Wisła was unable to find a breakthrough.
The Second Half
As the second half began, Wisła implemented their trademark high pressing. The White Star players immediately sought to capitalize on this tactic and find an equalizer. Just four minutes in, Sukiennicki fired a shot from 16 meters out, but it was saved comfortably by the Jagiellonia goalkeeper. As time passed, the game was largely contested in midfield, with both teams pushing to find the net—Wisła in search of an equalizer and Jagiellonia looking to extend their lead. In the 58th minute, Mariusz Jop made the first changes to Wisła’s lineup, substituting Poletanović and Baena for Duda and Kiss. Shortly after coming on, Duda took a free kick that led to several attacking opportunities, with Sukiennicki coming close to equalizing. Moments later, Letkiewicz produced a brilliant solo save to deny Jagiellonia a dangerous chance.
Less than a minute later, the referee awarded Wisła another free kick. Duda took the set piece and came agonizingly close to scoring, but the ball drifted just wide of the post. In the 68th minute, Zwoliński broke free on goal but was blocked by a swiftly reacting Jagiellonia defender, winning Wisła yet another corner. Ten minutes before the final whistle, Wiktor Biedrzycki made a crucial intervention, preventing a one-on-one situation that could have allowed Jagiellonia to double their lead.
As the match neared its conclusion, Wisła intensified their efforts to equalize, but each attempt fell short. The referee signalled three minutes of added time, yet Wisła could not find the breakthrough. With the final whistle, Jagiellonia secured a 1-0 victory, claiming the trophy and triumphing over Wisła.
