A Tough Beginning: #WISZNI 0:1

Wisła Kraków’s return to Betclic 1 Liga action ended in disappointment as Znicz Pruszków secured a 1-0 victory, taking all three points from the first match of the spring round. Paweł Moskwik scored the only goal of the game.

The First Half

The hosts began by playing the style they are most comfortable with, attempting quick attacking combinations. One such move saw Baena try his luck in front of Misztal’s goal, but a recovering defender blocked his effort. The opening 15 minutes were dominated by Wisła, yet despite their control, they struggled to convert their superiority into goals.

As time went by, the visitors began to venture forward more confidently. Wisła’s backline dealt well with any threats, clearing danger effectively. However, in the 27th minute, the White Star defence was finally breached, with Moskwik finishing off a well-worked attacking move. From that moment onwards, Wisła found themselves chasing the game.

Znicz sought to protect their lead by defending as a unit while remaining dangerous on the counter. In response, Wisła attempted to stretch the opposition's defensive line with frequent crosses and lateral passing around the penalty area. However, in the key statistic—goals scored—there were no further changes, meaning the Kraków side would have to find a way past Grzegorz Szoka’s well-organised team in the second half.

The Second Half

Neither manager opted for change2s at half-time, trusting their initial selections to carry out their respective tactical adjustments. Wisła immediately pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but Znicz stood firm against the increasing pressure from the hosts.

Duarte and Jaroch were introduced to enhance Wisła’s attacking efforts. In the 70th minute, a chaotic moment in the Znicz penalty area saw the ball ricochet off the post, coming agonisingly close to an equaliser. Just moments later, the visitors launched a swift counterattack in a promising 3-on-2 situation, only to squander the opportunity. This served as a stark warning to Wisła that defensive awareness was still required.

As the match entered its final stages, time worked against Wisła, who remained unable to find the breakthrough they desperately sought. Znicz resorted to long clearances towards their striker, who focused on retaining possession and running down the clock—an entirely understandable approach, given the value of every passing second.

With five minutes of stoppage time added, Wisła had one last chance to snatch a point. The visitors earned victory in Kraków.
